Rotten Beauty

You want to destroy me.
You picked me
because you want to destroy me.

The young boy recoils,
he’d never thought of it
like that.

Instead, he sometimes wished her dead
because it was the only way
he knew
to remove the cancer
of her.

He knew how she stole souls
he could feel her
tugging at his
pulling and owning
and claiming
what she thought
was rightfully hers.

He watched as her victims
wasted away
surrounded by smiling
concealing beauty
but like spoiled fruit
before it reaches the skin
it was rotten.

Rotten Beauty.

The girl didn’t know what was happening
as she stepped over the corpses
and at every noise
she bolted her head around
smiling brightly
because that’s all she knew.

You’re trying to destroy me.
