I Do Not Want To Drink Your Milkshake

It’s hard to admit
I want more
but I do,
I do want more.
But not at the expense of another.
I do not want to compete
far or near.
I do not want to fulfill my desires
with the siphoning from others.
I do not want to drink your milkshake.
So how can I achieve my desires
without drinking your milkshake.
And maybe it’s ok to just drink a little,
you know, to get started.
It will only be a little.
Maybe the problem is thinking about the world
as a milkshake, to drink from.
Everyone get there share.
Race to get your share.
Once you get your share,
then
you can turn
and see who is left to help
but only after
getting your share
and only then
will you help
with the conditions
of never losing
what you’ve gotten.
And so I squeeze my desires
like the snowman squeezes George
crushing what I most want
while absenting me from
what is all around me.
I do not want to drink your milkshake.
